Creating Cool iPod Skins

By: Steven Reynolds
Post Date: 2008-08-25

iPods are the most amazing little music players, but they have one flaw. They all look the same. Well, almost all the same. You have your choice between a few colors now. With the ipod shuffle and nano you get your choice of silver, teal, red, green, purple, and the nano also has black.

But now there are ipod skins, allowing you to transform your ipod into a personalized MP3 player that is unique to your designs. No longer do you need to follow the ipod code of having one of the pre-approved colors.

You can jazz up your ipod skins by using your favorite sports team, band, maybe a pattern like diamond plating, or possibly a favorite celebrity or your own design.

Designing an ipod skin just requires that the final image you use is at least 500 kb to provide enough sharpness to be satisfied with the final result. Desktop wallpaper is an excellent source for images and ideas to create your ipod skins.

You can create ipod skins for not just the nano and shuffle, but also the video and touch ipod as well. Wondering what an ipod skin is? It’s an adhesive sticker made from vinyl which is precision cut and protects your ipod from scratches and damage. They are easily removable, leaving no residue, and can last up to 6 months or more.

You can also get create wallpapers for your ipod to create a matching theme. Since the average ipod is handled so much, it makes a lot of sense to have a skin to protect it from all the potential abuse it might take throughout the day.

Now the only question left is what you might put on your ipod. While images of spiderman, the Simpsons, sports teams and celebrities are very popular, the final decision is up to you. Some people like to create a typography design, and others have been known to make either a collage or tribute to their favorite band. But in the end, you’ll have to determine what is best for your ipod skin so that you’re happy with it.
