DownUnder Innovation reduces Theme Park Waiting Times

Tired of waiting in lines for ever at theme park attractions ? A US school group has experimented with new Broadcaster technology developed by an Australian IT company.

The very cool new technology allowed Michigan-based school groups from Plymouth High School, Canton High School, and Salem High School to easily download line waiting times, so they could decide which attraction to visit next.

Created by Broadcaster Media, a sister company to Brisbane-based IT company Absolute Data Group, the innovation was used at a large theme park in Ohio, which, like many theme parks around the world, can have waiting lines of up to one or two hours for new or popular rides.

The Broadcaster technology allows companies to send graphically-rich, updatable applications to a consumer’s mobile phone, without using expensive web browsing or WAP.

Kids could just SMS a number to get updateable line waiting times, allowing them to decide which ride to try next, thus making their excursion far more enjoyable.

According to Plymouth High School science teacher Jim Gell, the quick and reliable updates saved valuable time and energy.

“We were happy with the whole concept,” said Jim. “In addition to wait times, we added updated weather reports and group information throughout the day. Both students and teachers found it easy to use and a valuable asset.”

Amanda Wrobleski, a 2007 Class student at Canton High School said: “the time saved using Broadcaster made the outing more fun. We could plan to go on rides more often and avoid walking across the park to just wait in line.”

Broadcaster was started in March and has already enjoyed interest from some of the world’s biggest brands.

The real time, off portal broadcast system allows companies to send product catalogues, news, video, event details, special offers and even sporting results to a customer’s mobile phone – on receipt of an SMS text message.

A second-generation technology, Broadcaster™ will change the way big brands interact with today’s sophisticated, experienced and content-hungry consumer.

“Broadcaster™ is the ultimate in consumer-initiated product and sales delivery systems,” said Broadcaster Media founder Tammy Halter.

“It allows companies to engage one-on-one with consumers,so they can receive qualified dedicated marketing leads, and respond to customer-driven requests.

According to Tammy, brands today need to deliver relevant, personalised content at a time when the buying impulse or need for information is high.

“Mobile technology is enabling companies to respond to this challenge. But for the first time ever, consumers won’t have to rely on a permanent connection to WAP in order to access their favourite brands. Broadcaster™ is putting the shop in the pocket of consumers, all day, every day,” Tammy said.
