Easy Ways To To Make Your Printer Wireless

Want to make your computer printer wireless? Then follow these steps:

1. Use a wireless print server.

A modern day printer will have a USB port in which a wireless print server box can be plugged into. The main benefit of this device is that you do not have to connect your printer to a personal computer. This means you can print documents on the go

A print server can cost as little as $50 but can go up as high as $100. Before you buy one, make sure it is able to work with your notebook.

During the setup phase, you'll have to connect the print server box to a router using an ethernet cable. You'll also need to put software on your laptop and make sure to configure the connection.

2. Have Other PCs In Your Home Share Your Printer

If you have many computers in your home or office sharing a printer, an inexpensive way to make the printer wireless is to connect it to a host computer. The disadvantage to doing this is that when the host computer is off or down, the other PCs on the network won't be able to use the printer

3. Get A Bluetooth Adapter

Virtually all manufacturers sell optional Bluetooth adapters with their printers. Such a device, which comes with a dongle for your notebook and a piece that connects to the printer itself cost around $50.

The advantage of a Bluetooth connection is that if you own a phone without Wi-Fi, you can still send documents and photos to the printer.

The downside of this is that older Bluetooth products that use Version 1.1 or 1.2, have a range of around 10 meters (about 33 feet), which is less than the range offered by your router or Wi-Fi enabled laptop's range.

However if you use Bluetooth 2.0 and 2.1, however, the range will be 3 times as much - around a range of about 100 meters. Of course, the greater the range, the greater options you have when it comes to printing away from your computer.

An alternative to going wireless with your printer is getting a portable printer that can be taken on the road with you. These portable devices cost as little as $160 and weigh between 2 - 5 pounds.

Portable printers on the market are likely to be inkjet models. These are cheaper than laser printers but they do have higher per page costs. Inkjets are great are printing color photos as well.
