Electronic Cigarette Popularity Growing In A Shrinking Economy

As the economy stutters from one crisis to another, the remarkable success story of the electronic cigarette continues to evolve. E cigarette distributers continue to report increasing sales, almost month on month and in some cases week on week.

So, what does this incredible rise to popularity actually mean? There are several different theories but perhaps one of the most consistent is that many of the tobacco smokers around the world are genuinely seeking a long term alternative to tobacco cigarettes and cigars.

Why would the e cig appeal to smokers in the first place? Well, the manufacturers and distributors of the product claim that to all intents and purposes that this is a cigarette without smoke and it has often been dubbed the "smokeless cigarette".

How can there be no smoke? There is certainly something being exhaled! Well, it's true, there is something being exhaled but apparently it is just an aqueous based vapour that quickly vanishes into the atmosphere. It doesn't linger and there is very little odour, which is very different to traditional cigarette smoke, which stays in the air and clings to clothes and anything else it comes into contact with.

There is no official evidence to suggest that the electronic cigarette helps tobacco smokers curb their habit and the product is not marketed as a method of quitting smoking. However, many people who have adopted the e cig have claimed that they have not returned to tobacco since the switch was made.

With some tobacco companies reporting falling profits, is it possible that their electronic counterpart has had such a dramatic impact since its introduction a few years ago, that it is beginning to affect tobacco cigarette sales?

Along with the increasing popularity of the product, its actual product range has seen a massive expansion in the last couple of years with a variety of models now available on the market. Success breeds success and technology is playing a part as new and improved electronic cigarette models are being introduced on a steady basis.

The liquid nicotine or e liquid that is heated inside the e cig is also seeing a similar product explosion. In addition to the stock flavours associated with smoking, many more exotic flavours are being introduced. It is even possible to mix and create flavours of your own using special products and this element certainly seems to point towards longevity of interest.

Will we be talking about electronic cigarettes as a household name in the years to come?
