Facelift: Know What Can It Do For You

A facelift (rhytidectomy) is a great way to turn back the clock. The natural process of aging does terrible things to your face. Not only are there wrinkles, but also puffiness, pouches under eyes, sagging cheeks and lots of other clear signs that you're not young anymore. Rhytidectomy is a medical procedure that can get rid of these signs of aging and make you feel young and confident again.

What Is A Facelift?

The facelift is one of plastic surgery's most misunderstood procedures. It's not like a science fiction movie where you trade your old face for a new one. Plastic surgery hasn't invented a way to do that yet. Instead it is a common procedure that simply makes you look younger by getting rid of the signs of aging.

There is no lift involved. What doctors do during the operation is simply tighten tissue underneath the face, smooth out loose skin and get rid of extra fat and other tissue. The end result is a younger-looking, rejuvenated face. Incisions are made in key areas where they can easily access the tissue, and the cuts are made so that they will not be noticeable after they have healed.

Rhytidectomy is one of the world's most popular plastic surgery procedures because it is simple and it works. The procedure costs anywhere from $5,000 to $8,000.

Why Not Try The Lunchtime Facelift?

There is a new procedure now called the lunchtime facelift. This is a simpler and cheaper version of the procedure where the doctor simply does some quick adjustments. It's much smaller, but the results can be very effective for some.

It's called a "thread facelift", but it is also known as the "lunchtime facelift" because it can be done in an hour or so. With the lunchtime procedure, the doctor makes smaller incisions. This means there is less scarring and the healing time is quicker. It also means you pay less for it. The lunchtime lift is gaining popularity among those who want the effects of the full procedure without the major surgery.

Healing From The Procedure

After surgery, there will always be swelling and some pain. Usually the pain isn't much, but the swelling can last for weeks and is quite noticeable. Your doctor will advise you on how to best deal with it. Since this is a type of surgery, there is also a risk of blood clotting, infection and improper healing. Be sure to follow doctor's instructions during the healing process and you shouldn't have any problems.

One more thing to keep in mind is that results aren't permanent. Over time, you will experience some sagging and puffiness as gravity does its thing. Most people don't get a second facelift because one works well enough, but you should know the results aren't permanent. If this is an issue for you, talk to your doctor about it during the consultation.

This is one reason why it is a great surgery to have done later in life. People in the 55+ age group find the surgery most effective, although you can get one at any age.You can't get a new face with a facelift, but you can rejuvenate the one you have. Talk to your doctor about the procedure today and see what plastic surgery can do for you.
