Any way you look at it, running your own business is challenging. Make that business a restaurant and you are looking at long hours, a commitment to service, and an undying love for food. Location, Location, Location
First and foremost, choose your type of restaurant. What is the area like where you are choosing to establish it? Is there a need for casual diners or ethnic foods or high class clubs? This decision will then lead you to determining your startup costs. Also, choose whether you will restore an existing building or begin from the ground up. Obviously the first option is significantly less expensive. Next step is getting the business registered and approved. This is done through extensive paperwork written up by local laws, regulations and restrictions. Health standards, inspection and food safety requirements, and other various rules are all imperative to a successful restaurant.
Commitment
Because it is not realistic to hire many employees when beginning a restaurant business, there is a lot of work to be done as the owner and manager from the get go. There will be peak hours of service which will require patience and multitasking skills, closing and cleaning duties, and waking up early to get the best produce at local markets.
Create a simple, attractive menu. Too much diversity means more ingredients- which is more time consuming and expensive. Instead, try specialties of the day, which will in turn give you a good idea of what your particular demographic enjoys the most. Those items can be considered for a more permanent spot on the menu.
Customers
As soon as the permit is obtained and the door is opened, you will begin welcoming your regulars. However, be cautious, because we all know that people love food. And they love to criticize the service, speed, and food quality even more. One bad move and you lose potential clientele.
Ambience
The choice of music, decorations, color of the walls, and the proximity of the dining tables are all necessary aesthetics to take into consideration. Atmosphere is key to creating a comfortable and rewarding eating experience. Leave customers a reason to come back and stay a while. Your hospitality, and accurate mood setting will be appreciated and noted. The best way to be successful is to have people leaving and spreading positive remarks about the restaurant. That is why those little diners make it for years on end. If you express your passion and love for your endeavor, customers will take notice. Be a local legend and stand out in your field by adhering to these tried and true restaurant tips.
