Adsense is an advertising program run by Google. Many consider it the best way to make money from blogs. By adding a piece of code to your site you enable Google to analyze the content of your page. (Google technology is actually able to determine the content of a website.) Based on analysis of site theme and visitor demographics, Google displays ads that are relevant to the content of your site. You get paid when readers click on the ads. Content specific ads make it more likely your readers will click, which increases the money you make.
Adsense provides additional ways to earn money from your blogs. Through referral tools you can make money by recommending Google products. By placing a Google search box on your site, you earn money each time a user searches from your site.
How it works
First you need to build your website. Find a topic you're really interested in and build the site around it. Google wants specific themes with lots of original content. Even if your site is just for information, you can earn money through Adsense; perhaps enough to fund the site. Your site needs to be well-organized and neat with clean navigation. Get all the links working, eliminate typos, and make sure the layout is consistent. Once your site is up and running and gets targeted traffic, you can submit it.
To enroll in Adsense the webmaster inserts Adsense JavaScript code onto the web page. Google administers the ads. Income is generated on either a pay per click or pay per impression basis:
Pay per click (PPC) has the maximize revenue potential. Advertisers pay $0.02 to $15.00 per click, depending on how much advertisers are paying Google for the ad. Visitors just have to click, they don't have to make a purchase, for the website to earn money.
Pay per impression. Each time an ad loads onto a user's screen is considered an impression, which generates revenue
You can maximize the money you earn from Adsense in a number of ways:
Content-rich sites. Valuable content encourages visitors to click on relevant ads.
High search engine ranking. The more people who go to your site the more clicks ads will get.
Unique identity. Make people want to link to you.
Competitive keywords. Advertisers pay more for sites with popular keywords people more people search for them.
The advertisements
Google has ads for all types of businesses and nearly all types of content. Ads are family-friendly, have sensitive language filters, and comply with Google's editorial guidelines. Google ads are text ads, so they appear to be part of the website. Plus, they are visually less distracting and obtrusive than most banner ads. Because they are relevant to site content, Google ads add to the site rather than detracting from it. As a website owner you can see the ads before they are placed on your site. Google provides the ads so the site owner does not deal with the advertiser.
Adsense is pretty straightforward. You help Google advertise; in return they pay you for bringing traffic to their advertisers' sites. Adsense works best with content-rich websites. It's particularly useful for websites that are non-commercial or don't have the resources for developing their own advertising programs.
