Linking The Basic Marketing Concept to Multi-Channels Blog's Promotion
By: Joha Rahman
Post Date: 2010-02-08
Do you still remember our students' days, when we were first introduced to the term 4 Ps in marketing, the concept of marketing mix (products, price, place and promotion) and its application in our daily business. The ideas and the term were created about 50 years ago, when the word internet was not coined yet. It is not a coincidence that it is still applicable in today's word of digital business.
The same concept is applied, whether consciously or not, in promoting the blogs or websites. As the P for promotion is positioned last amongst the 4Ps, it is assumed that you had covered and acted upon the other 3 Ps, i.e products, price and place. The target audients have been identified and their buying habits had already been researched and known.
Some of the issues faced in promoting sites are the ethics and legal issues. Although we rarely hear these issues being openly discussed, publishing a misleading advertisement or false advertisement with deliberate misrepresentation may put you into trouble with the law.
Before we discuss the various ways to promote products, lets us review the thinking behind it. When we are planning to promote our products, consider the following questions. (kotler 1980).
1. Who is our target audience?
2. What responds do we want to get
3. What message should be coded
4. What media to be used
5. What source attributes to be included(Senders, profile, web pages etc)
6. What feedback should we collect
7. Timing of the promotion, when to start, stop and its frequency
Ways to Promote Your Blogs
There are many ways you can use to promote your blogs or web sites. Each one of them is a topic of discussion by its own, and it beyond the scope of this short article. Let me briefly mention them:
1. Writing articles- Perhaps this is the most critical, as it is expected to produce multiple outcomes, ranging from the increase of traffics to building customers relationship.
2. Use Social networks - Social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace can be used to promote the blogs as well as the author. In most cases, the author is as important as the blog. Once you had created name and trust, it will be easier to generate traffics.
3. E-mail- It has the great advantage as it is delivered directly to target audiences, as compared to a web page, where the target audient has to action upon it. One of the issue is spam
4. List it in directories- You may register with blog directories such as Buzzerhut, where a visitor can see your blog and put a rating to it.
5. Backlinks - Backlinks is great the promoting the ranking of your web sites.
6. You Tubes - I personally believe that YouTube is a great way to promote your sites.
You may also use third party sites to promote your sites
1. Delicious.com. Join and post your bookmark. Insert the best page from your site and leave the book mark for people.
2. StumbleUpon. Another similar site and you can join it.
3. Post an intriguing title and link to the post in LinkedIn's status message.
4. You can share your postings in FriendFeed automatically, and let the audients decide if it's interesting.
5. Zemanta is a blogging tool that either adds on to your browser as a WordPress plugin. It allows you to find related stories and post them at the bottom.
